Editorial Policy
Last updated:
What’s On Durham (WOD) exists to help people decide where to go and what to do in Durham, NC. These are the principles we follow.
How we choose places and events
- We include things we think are useful for someone planning time in Durham: when it’s on, where it is, and what to do next.
- We favor local, independent, and community-run places and events alongside well-known ones, and we try to cover different neighborhoods, budgets, and interests.
- Listings come from our own research, venue and organizer information, and community tips. Submissions are reviewed before they appear.
- We may decline or remove listings that are unsafe, misleading, discriminatory, out of area, or no longer operating.
Partners can’t buy inclusion or position
Payment, sponsorship, or a partnership does not decide whether a place or event is listed, how it’s described, or where it ranks in lists, search, or recommendations. Partners may get clearly labeled extras (for example, a Passport offer or a labeled placement), but never an unlabeled editorial endorsement.
Labels you’ll see
- Partner: a business or organization with a working relationship with WOD (for example, Passport offers).
- Sponsored: paid placement or promotion. It is labeled as such and is separate from editorial picks.
- Affiliate: a link where WOD may earn a commission if you book or buy, at no extra cost to you. Hotel links are an example.
- Editor’s pick and Listed by the venue: whether we chose it or the venue supplied the information.
More on how we disclose these: Paid Relationship Disclosure.
How we use AI
- Chat assistant: the assistant uses AI to suggest options from WOD listings. It can make mistakes. It is not an editor and its answers aren’t reviewed before you see them.
- Translation: if the site offers translated pages, translations are automated and may be imperfect. The English page is the reference version.
- We don’t publish AI-generated text as signed reporting, and we don’t invent reviews, quotes, awards, or statistics.
Accuracy and updates
Hours, dates, and prices change, so please confirm with the venue or organizer. When we learn something is wrong, we fix it and, for substantive changes to stories, note the update. See Corrections.
Complaints and feedback
If you think a listing is unfair, inaccurate, or shouldn’t be here, email [email protected] with the page link and what you’d like us to look at. We’ll review it and reply where we can. See also Contact and About.
